Last week our Project Leader Alan Lake took a very exciting trip to the foundry! As part of the restoration just over 40 lighting columns have been condemned and are being re-cast from the orginals!
So we wanted to see how they were coming along! W.B. White Foundry in Brighouse, West Yorkshire has been beautifully recreating the Southport Crest. Here are some images.
The Southport Crest can be found all over the gardens, on the railing around the Marine Lake as well as on the Victorian lighting columns along the lower Promenade.
The words 'Salus populi' written underneath the Southport Crest means 'for the health of the people.'
