As you may be aware, Kings Garden’s is a historic seafront garden which was awarded more than £4 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and the Big Lottery Fund (BIG) through their Parks for People programme. It is one of the largest current park restoration projects in the UK and is entirely externally funded.
As part of this major project, a visitor’s centre has been developed and refitted from the original ladies toilets, with the aim of opening the visitor centre for the benefit of local people and visitors to Southport, to provide information and provide services to heighten visitor experience whilst visiting the park. Plans of the building can be seen at /.
Sefton MBC are seeking expressions of interest from Voluntary, Community and/or Faith Sector organisations/projects. The successful organisation will benefit from rent free office space for their services/activities around the Southport town centre, the rent free space will be provided in return for the successful organisation co-ordinating the visitor centre and its volunteers, opening and closing the centre at agreed times.
The outline aspects of the agreement will include:
•Opening and closing of the building, at least from 10am till 4pm including weekends
•Coordinating and day to day management of the volunteers.
•Managing day to day queries on site
•Working with Sefton MBC Health and Safety policy to ensure the safety of the building and its staff, customers and volunteers. Sefton MBC will be responsible for repairs and maintenance of the building
•Parks & Greenspace staff would require access to a hot desk on occasion
•Car parking will be provided for staff and volunteers although there is no parking provided for visitors, however there is on street pay and display.
•The tenant must ensure they have relevant insurance to a minimum of five million pounds.
•Recruitment of volunteers for the Visitor Centre will be managed by Sefton MBC in partnership with the successful organisation.
•Access to the Internet via Sefton MBC systems will not be allowed, therefore the successful organisation would need to arrange independent ICT.
At this point Sefton MBC in partnership with Sefton CVS are looking for interested organisations. Organisations with a track record of successful volunteer, recruitment, retention and management would be desirable.
If you are interested, please click here for an expression of interest form and return to Sefton CVS by 5pm on 30/06/14.
